Our Past and Present Futures is the latest album from Devin Sinha. Originally from the Kansas City area, Sinha is now working out of Seattle. Overall, the album is a folk rock album with the occasional country twang thrown in for good measure.
On many songs it sounds like Sinha has been taking singing lessons from Leigh Nash, the lead singer of Sixpence None the Richer. Regardless of how you feel about Sixpence though, Our Past and Present Futures is worth a listen for anyone who is a fan of folk or acoustic rock. Songs such as “Follow You Down” use a number of stringed instruments playing on top of each other in a way that can only be described as perfectly pleasant.
While he may lack the depth of such artists as Sharon Van Etten or Joanna Newsom who use atmosphere and orchestration respectively to bring their songs to a new level, Our Past and Present Futures is a successful, well-crafted creation from Sinha.
