Individualism matters.
Kevin Parker’s debut album announced that there was a party in his mind, but no one would be invited. Lonerism follows up on this fun-for-one idea, with the main songwriter having retreated into his own solo rock-and-roll wonderland for most of the album. The outcome is not the shoegazing bewilderment that one might expect, but a very expansive and driving force of musical and mental exploration. There’s psyc-rock influences here, for sure, and a fair dose of neo-Beatles-alia, with great synth parts.
