Old movies inspires this week’s Vintage Vinyl setlist.
It might be no surprise to some that I am a total lover of movies. Anyone has heard my show has probably heard me read back my previous set lists and talk about songs in relation to which movies they were used in. It’s kind of like a nervous tic. Seriously, it’s nearly impossible for me to talk about, say, “Lollipop” by the Chordettes, without referencing that scene in “Stand By Me.” Or any of the Forrest Gump soundtrack, which was mostly responsible for opening my eyes and ears to Clarence Henry, The Doors, Joan Baez. 
My love for movies goes back so far that I can’t exactly pinpoint when it began. I play movies while doing homework, cleaning, cooking, eating. I have the coolest job in Lawrence ever, working at Liberty Hall, so I watch movies while I work as well. I’m sure you’re all wondering why, in writing this blog for a MUSIC show, I’m talking about movies with such fervor, and it does in fact have to do with my next show.
This week’s theme is “Night at the Movies.” See, ten years ago on November 9, 2001, the Kodak Theatre opened. The Kodak Theatre, as some of you may know, is where the Oscars are held now, so I decided this was a great opportunity to do a show I’ve considered for a long time; movie music. All on vinyl, of course.
As such, all of my playlist will include music that was used in some of my favorite movies. There will be music from “The Graduate,” “American Graffiti,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and all sorts of others. And of course, I will let everyone know which movies each song comes from.
Take this opportunity to hunker down on your couch with a blanket and warm socks, since it’s going to be a cold night! I would make you all popcorn if I could. Join me on Wednesday night to reminisce about your favorite movies and relive all your favorite moments through music.
