A strange trip with the Baltimore quartet.
What madness. This is the tenth full-length LP from Animal Collective, and the first one since Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009), which showcased their psych-pop freakout capabilitiesand that AC soft side which seems to come out every other album (Feels, Sung Tongs). This album is not so cute to listen to. This album is full-fledged chaotic expression of the group that often runs around at the frontiers of oddity. The album as a whole seems to be completely out of control, but stays on track. Look out for sound shock a bit here, as the group is back at full strength with Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and (newly returned guitarist) Deakin doing their darnedest to keep us stimulated and searching.
Think: an experimental music radio show by people very practiced in this experimenting business
