Circa Waves: Young Chasers

circa-waves-young-chasers-album-artFollowing a successful debut single and EP, Young Chasers is the first full-length album from English band Circa Waves. It combines Strokes-esque musicality with a dash of indie-pop optimism.

With each track offering a youthful burst of energy, Young Chasers is a blast. The lyrics, while not particularly revolutionary, are relatable and fun. The only real downside is that the songs are all structured very similarly, which leads to the whole album sounding more like one 40 minute track than a collection of individual songs. Listening to the entire thing all the way through can get a little tiring, but the tracks are strong enough to stand on their own – and may actually be more enjoyable when heard that way.

If you dig The Strokes and their contemporaries, Circa Waves is definitely a band worth checking out. Young Chasers is pretty good for a debut album – but you may want to consider putting your favorites on a mix rather than listening to the entire thing in one sitting.
