Here’s the Scoop

IMG_5461As far as anyone is concerned, ice cream is its own (very essential) food group. Even with winter approaching, who can’t turn down a cone? Lucky, then, that Lawrence is home to Sylas and Maddy’s, a wonderland of flavors to make Baskin-Robbins blush.

Located at 1014 Massachusetts St., Sylas and Maddy’s offers freshly made ice cream with flavors like green tea, English toffee, and blueberry cheesecake. In the lengthy process of deciding what to order, there were sampled varieties with delightful names like the Phog and Jayhawk tracks. The Phog is a refreshing, crisp mixture of various berries; and Jayhawk tracks is a Kansas take on moose tracks.

IMG_5459Ultimately, the ice cream of choice was cinnamon, which is a sentimental favorite. When scooped into a waffle cone, the combination of sugar and cinnamon is reminiscent of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

If you want bang for your buck, you can head down to Sylas and Maddy’s on Tuesday evenings for student night, when it’s two for one. Fair warning, be prepared for a short wait; I’ve seen the line snake through the store and out onto the sidewalk. That said, the line moves quickly and it’s not long before your order is being taken.

You can head downtown to Sylas and Maddy’s for your ice cream fix from 12-10 pm Monday-Thursday, 12-11 pm Friday-Saturday, and 12:30-10pm Sunday.
