This week ushers in the spookiest month of the year. The leaves are falling and so are some of the years greats. Don’t fret though! There is an insane amount of good music hurrying its way in before the end of the year. This week there is a crazy power shift in the ranks here at KJHK. This is the week of the underdogs as records that were dragging last week hopped up and successful albums trailed.
TOP 3 ADDS
3. “Atrocity Exhibition,” by Danny Brown
Zany and spooky – this album is something is well worth the hype. Danny Brown’s flow is on display here as he cycles from track to track. There is an abstract experimental side to this album that achieves its goals without falling to pretentiousness.
Gloomy and spooky doom metal meets Galaxie 500. This album hits many genres that most bands can only refine. This is a perfect October addition as its minor chords slam speakers with ghostly reverberations this week. This is a large recommendation for fans of Pity Sex, doom metal and Beach House.
1. “22, A MILLION,” by Bon Iver
Okay, it’s a little pretentious. Give Justin Vernon credit though – this album retains its art without soul and lyrical purpose. There is an incredibly adept lyrical value in this release that is coupled with a new direction in Bon Iver’s discography. Fans that may have feared the worst will be happy to hear that Vernon completely succeeds at building something substantial out of what may seem

3. “Easy Travels” by Dead Gaze
From our Music Staffer, Chloe Carlson: “Easy Travels, while preceded only by the groups debut LP Brain Holiday in 2013, effectively solidifies and fine tunes their infectious sound … As a whole, Easy Travels accomplished what it was meant to, though it introduced nothing revolutionary in the process.”
2. “Phase Zero” by Morgan Delt
Morgan Delt is definitely a sleeper hit. Just last week this album was much lower on the charts. It is interesting to see a jump – but definitely welcome. Morgan Delt blends their psychedelia with a level of substance that is often hard to find in the genre.
From last week: “A top-charter from last week, Angel Olsen continues to conquer the charts this week. “My Woman” is a hard departure from her folky, quite past. Music is a huge focus for this album – placing the lyrics in the backseat in quality (though just slightly). It is more likely that a listen will illicit frustration than sadness and emotional solidarity.”
