The Dip, rooted in Seattle, Washington rounds out at seven members: Jarred Katz on drums, Mark Hunter on bass, Tom Eddy with the vocals and on guitar, Brennan Carter on trumpet, Evan Smith on baritone saxophone, Levi Gillis on tenor saxophone, and Jacob Lundgren on guitar. The band considers itself to be a soul band, combining the sounds of soul and funk to deliver upbeat and groove-able music. The group most recently released The Dip Delivers, a 10 track album, with features from Jimmy James and Delvon Lamarr.
The Dip released their debut album, The Dip, back in 2015. Like The Dip Delivers, the overall sound is light and easy. For holiday lovers, The Dip delivered a festive single back in 2018, called “Santa’s Got a Sweet Tooth.” Collectively, the band has drawn from other artists that got their start in Seattle, like Ray Charles and Quincy Jones, and thanks the city for its ties to Jazz and Soul.
To really get a flavor for The Dip, the opening track, “Sure Don’t Miss You,” starts with the strong vocals of Eddy and midway through, slows down and takes a contemplative turn, before picking right back up again. “Best Believe” and “She Gave Me the Keys,” will have you ready to hit the road with snacks and buddies in tow, ready for a cross-country road trip. The entirety of the album’s songs is relatable, touching on love, life, and the everyday motions that come with it.
