Swallow the Rat Comes to LFK!

Written by Betsey Lewis

Swallow the Rat is a really cool post-punk band based in Auckland, New Zealand. The band is touring their second LP–South Locust, released September 1st–in the States this March, and our beloved Lawrence, Kansas is third on their American galavant. My personal favorites off of the album are “Terra Nullius,” “Chain Mail,” “Cave,” and “Idea of South.” For fans of guitar-heavy sounds, intricately layered vocals, banging your head so hard to an album that your headphones fall off, and bragging about knowing smaller artists before they blow up, Swallow the Rat’s South Locust is a must-listen! You can find them on all streaming platforms, as well as their website and their bandcamp.

Next week, Swallow the Rat will be performing at the SXSW Music Festival (March 8-16) down in Austin, Texas. But first, they are stopping in Lawrence this coming Sunday, March 3rd to perform at the Replay Lounge. These Auckland post-punk-rockers will be joined by three local bands, the likes of which you may be familiar!

Blanky is Lawrence-local and recently performed in-studio for our Live @ KJHK broadcast and video series on Thursday, February 8th.

Discotek Mama is another band local to Lawrence and frequents DIY and larger-scale bills around Lawrence. Last year, Discotek Mama made it to the finals in the Farmer’s Ball, KJHK’s Battle of the Bands.

Powerline Lisa is yet another rockin’ band local to the area who you might have seen on the stages of the Replay Lounge, The Bottleneck, Hobbit Hole, Farewell (in KC, MO), and more!

Again, Swallow the Rat will be performing with Blanky, Discotek Mama, and Powerline Lisa this Sunday, March 3rd at the Replay Lounge in Lawrence, Kansas. The show is 21+, and the cover for the event is $5. Hope to see you there!
