Lawrence – It’s family weekend for the University of Kansas and on Saturday the Jayhawks will take on their opponents at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Jalon Daniels will lead his team into the fray against conference opponents, the TCU Horned Frogs.
Historically, this is a losing game for Kansas. The Horned Frogs post a 26-9-4 all-time record against Kansas while going 12-7 when playing at Kansas. The Jayhawks are fresh off of a 32-28 loss against West Virginia last weekend that handed the Jayhawks their third loss in a row. TCU is also on a losing stretch. They’ve lost their last two games which included a game against SMU and UCF. Both teams come into the matchup on losing streaks and losing their first conference games along with TCU having the advantage coming to Kansas.
The biggest question mark heading into this game for Kansas is the redshirt junior quarterback, Jalon Daniels. He has thrown seven interceptions in just four games so far with only four touchdowns to his name. Daniels has only thrown for 626 yards as well this season whereas last season in the three games he played he threw for 705 yards. It’s clear that Daniels is not having the return season he’d hoped for, but we will have to wait and see if he can change the tides.
Meanwhile, senior running back Devin Neal is hot on the ground so far and looks to continue that going into the conference match against TCU. So far Neal has used his feet to rush for 443 yards and inching ever closer to the all-time rushing record at Kansas. Neal currently sits at 3,520 rushing yards which is 321 yards shy of the record which is currently held by June Henley who rushed for 3,841 yards in his career with Kansas.
Defensively, Kansas is sitting pretty. Senior cornerback, Mello Dotson, is tied with six others to lead the Big 12 conference in interceptions with two. Dotson is also only one of two men to take their interceptions all the way back to the endzone. Senior defensive end Jereme Robinson is also a Big 12 leader in defensive statistics. He is tied for third in solo sacks with three on the season so far. Then fellow senior cornerback, Cobee Bryant, is the only other Jayhawk on the team to have an interception this season.
Kickoff for the Big 12 contest is set for the 2:30 p.m. CST slate and will be televised on ESPN. KJHK will be broadcasting the game with Dylan Couch and Gus Ketchell on the call for 90.7 FM.
