Starting just a year ago, the Lawrence-based band Mosaic was born from a jam session between bassist Micah Reynolds and guitarist Lucas Gomez. What began as a spontaneous musical exchange quickly transformed into something much greater. After undergoing several evolutions, including a name change, the group expanded to include drummer Jaron Holbert, keyboardist Max Bryan, and vocalist Lauren Braun.
Regulars at local venues like Replay Lounge and The Bottleneck, Mosaic combines elements from several genres, including rock, funk, jazz, and folk, to create a true “mosaic” of sounds. Their setlists effortlessly transition from powerful ballads to lively hoedowns, taking their audiences on vast musical journeys in just a single performance. While their genre is hard to identify, the musical chemistry that they share is undeniable. From Lauren’s powerful belting to Lucas’ smooth guitar licks, Mosaic has something for every music fan to enjoy.
After placing second at our 2025 Farmer’s Ball and amassing over 1,000 streams on their first single, “El Gaucho,” the band is set to release their second single titled “Vita West” on June 6th.
When asked about the new song, Lauren responded, “‘Vita’ was the first song that I really got a chance to create with this group. The band already had a beautiful instrumental song laid out and it was begging to have some emotional lyrics and melodies on top”. This song marks the beginning of the Mosaic we know and love today.
“Last summer,” she continued, “Max and I got together and we started trying to piece together what we wanted the song to be about. We ended up jokingly saying that we would make it about a past relationship of mine. What started as a joke ended up creating one of our more emotional and vulnerable tunes”. But of course, it wouldn’t be a true Mosaic song without some fun genre-bending.
“We have a section in that song where the tune completely changes from an emotional ballad to an upbeat samba groove. That is where we show just how goofy the situation that the song is about to balance out the emotional intensity the other sections have.”
Even in their most emotional moments, the band ensures that their bubbly, fun-loving personalities still shine through. From best friends to bandmates, Mosaic’s music showcases not only their love for music but also their love for performing it with each other. Listen to their newest single, “Vita West,” out on June 6th on all streaming platforms, and on KJHK 90.7 FM!
