10 Songs for Lonely Gays This Pride Month

By Content Director Cameron Castaldi

Where did all the time go? Pride Month just started, and now it’s the end of June?!

In the spirit of this fleeting Pride Month, I’ve put together a playlist of songs all about fleeting love, featuring all queer musicians. Whether you’re feeling just a little nostalgic or completely heartbroken, let these ten songs serve as a soundtrack to your daydreaming of what once was.

  • “Cupid” by Ryan Beatty

“Cupid” tells the story of a young, forbidden gay love. Though the narrator is confident in what he wants, his lover doesn’t seem ready to admit he feels the same.

  • “Dispose” by Kevin Atwater

Though in a seemingly perfect relationship, Kevin sings about his self-doubts and his fear of being abandoned, or disposed of, by his lover.

  • “Endlessly” by Omar Apollo

This song is all about feeling neglected by a partner, and accepting that the love you crave is already inside you, and won’t be found in this hopeless relationship.

  • “Forget Her” by girl in red

There’s no worse feeling than craving love from a person you’ll probably never see again. This song explores the feelings of post-breakup hopelessness, when it feels as though no one else could ever love you better.

  • “BMHWDY” by Syd

It’s hard to feel sad when you hear songs as groovy as Syd’s, but this one takes it at least a bit slower as she reflects on a relationship gone wrong.

  • “Come on Mess Me Up” by Cub Sport

This song is about being so lonely that you crave any sort of love, even if it ends up hurting you in the long run.

  • “BITE” by Troye Sivan

Blue Neighborhood somehow came out ten years ago, but it still haunts me every time I feel any amount of queer angst. This one is about yearning so hard for someone, but being afraid that they’ll hurt you once you get them.

  • “Always Let U Down” by Blood Orange

Heavily influenced by the New York ballroom scene, Blood Orange’s music transcends gender and sexuality, making existential songs that are relatable to just about anyone. This one is pretty self-explanatory.

  • “Doomed” by Moses Sumney

In his 2017 album Aromanticism, Sumney explores his fluctuating sexual identities and the loneliness of doing so alone.

  • “I Know we Can’t be Friends” by Shamir

Discovered this song while writing this article, and wow, it’s so pretty. If you liked the Blood Orange song, you’ll like this one too.

With couples constantly soft-launching on Instagram, Pride Month can be a tough time for us singles. I hope these songs about loneliness make you feel a little less lonely this June. Happy yearning!
