On Sept. 9, The Midland was lucky enough to host Malcolm Todd on the second night of The Wholesome Rockstar Tour in Kansas City. The crowd, decked out in homemade T-shirts and Carhartt jeans, made the show feel like a shared experience of pure, unfiltered excitement.
I was unfamiliar with Malcolm’s work going into the concert, outside of a few songs I’d heard on social media, but after about three tracks I knew I’d leave a fan. Todd’s playful but confident stage presence had everyone on their feet; the show was as much a party as it was a concert. The simple stage design—a white picket fence and a park bench—perfectly framed the sense of community felt in his fanbase, making it feel like a casual gathering in a neighborhood backyard rather than a concert hall as formal as The Midland.
