On October 8th, Kansas City’s Valentines neighborhood welcomed over 100 local musicians for the third annual Porchfest. For those unfamiliar, Porchfest is an event where performers can showcase their tunes on the front porches of homes, functioning like a casual, neighborhood music festival. It’s hosted annually in many cities around the nation; from Napa, CA to where it originated in Ithaca, NY. Kansas City welcomed the event in 2014, in which it’s undoubtably lived up to its hype of uniting the local music community.

With over 100 music performances, this year’s Porchfest KC was the boldest yet. An intimate crow could request classic folk songs at Jimbo’s singalong, and a large crowd cheered down the street for the kid rock band, Hammerhedd. Many more great bands, covering all types of genres, made this experience unique for everyone.

Porchfest KC 2016 lived up to expectations. The talented performers, wonderful volunteers, cheerful audience, delicious food trucks, and perfect weather a painted a picturesque Saturday on the historic streets of Valentine neighborhood. One can only hope this year’s balance of local intimacy and large community involvement stays consistent as this event picks up speed in the upcoming years.
