The Kansas and Missouri exhibition game on Sunday raised at least $1.8 million for hurricane relief, according to an article by The Kansas City Star.
The exhibition game, titled the Showdown for Relief, was played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Jayhawks defeated the Tigers 93-87. They have not played each other since 2012, before Missouri left the Big 12 Conference.
The game raised $724,480 on pay-per-view. Fans paid $40 per pay-per-view to watch the game at home, which means over 18,000 people paid to watch the game. The Sprint Center was filled with both Jayhawks and Tigers with a crowd of 18,951.
At halftime, Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk and basketball coach Cuonzo Martin, and Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger and coach Bill Self met on the court with a ceremonial check of $1,750,000.
The donations will be split between five hurricane relief funds: Houston Harvey Relief Fund, Florida Disaster Fund, Rebuild Texas Fund, Juntos y Unidos Por Puerto Rico and Fund for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Kansas will play its next exhibition match against Pittsburg State on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse.
