Yeah, we’re bringing country music to KJHK. I had the absolute pleasure to see Waylon Wyatt live in Manhattan, Kansas, again after seeing him at Hinterland Music Festival in St. Charles, Iowa, on Sept. 8 at The Hat with opener Mason Ramsey.
To start off the show, we had Mason Ramsey and his band take the stage, and I was blown away! I knew that there was clear talent there that’s been obvious for years, but it was extremely cool to see in person. A highlight song from the night for me was “Blue Over You,” a personal favorite of mine. Even though there were some technical difficulties during his set, I was so impressed with him and his band’s quick way of thinking to continue on with the show!
My first introduction to Waylon Wyatt was at Hinterland Music Festival, but he made an extremely good impression on me. After that festival I knew that some of the songs I’d be most excited to hear again live were “Dead Man Walkin’” and “Box of Bones.” I was not let down, and I screamed when both of those songs started. I was excited to experience my first true country concert as well and was not let down. From everyone that you could see in cowboy boots to the energy from the crowd during songs like “Dead Man Walkin” and “Pretty Little Liar.”
I also just think it’s really cool to see this level of success from someone so young. I can’t wait to see what comes from Waylon Wyatt in the future, and I really enjoyed my time at this show.
