If you like slow, relaxed southern R&B music with church organs you will love Alabama Shakes.

Alabama Shakes: Sound & Color

AlabamaShakesIf you’ve never listened to Alabama Shakes before, try to imagine a modern-day Etta Jones in a rock band and you have Alabama Shakes. After their last album I was expecting a barrage of upbeat songs similar to “Hold On”, but I was surprised to find that almost every song on this album is very laid back and easy to listen to.

Of course, there are a few exceptions. “Shoegaze” and “Future People” sound like early Stones’ hits. My favorite track off of the album is probably “Don’t Wanna Fight”, however “Gimme All of Your Love” and “Future People” are close contenders.

Her soaring vocals and the funkadelic combination of fuzzy guitar sounds with angelic church organ make this album a true gem to behold.
