Widowspeak has a ground sound. This is the group’s debut album and it is high-quality. There is a nice range of guitar sounds, from acoustic rhythms to jangly surf hooks and clean fills. These songs sound familiar and gentle, yet, have a quiet darkness to them. The production comes from Jarvis Taveniere from the great psych/folk band Woods and it seems he lent some of his sound and wistfully reflective mood to this album. I expect more good things to come from Widowspeak in the years to come. Don’t miss this one!
