Lavender House: Mystics Meditation

lavenderhouseLavender House is an interspiritual retreat center and communal space focused on providing the Lawrence community with spiritual healing and creative dialogue reaching across many disciplines.

Every Monday, Lavender House hosts Mystics & Meditation from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Mystics & Meditation is an ongoing series of gatherings centered around the teachings and philosophies of mystics from all traditions. Peggy Beatty, founder of regular Lavender House collaborator, Ecumenicus,  leads the sessions each week.

As a part of the ever-changing curriculum, Mystics & Meditation focused on the teachings of American mystic and writer, Thomas Merton, during the month of February through his book “Bridges to Contemplative Living.” The book discusses mindfulness, contemplative thought, and self-reflection. “Bridges to Contemplative Living” uses the writings of Thomas Merton and also the writings of mystics from other traditions on the same concepts to help readers understand the ideas discussed from different spiritual perspectives.

Peggy Beatty integrated these practices into the Mystics & Meditation sessions in February to expose attendees to the various practices that characterize meditation and mysticism throughout the world. Participants come together, read texts or watch videos, discuss the ideas presented, and meditate together all under Peggy’s guidance.

For first time attendee Becca H., Mystics & Meditation is “a calming space for different groups of people to come and gather seeking peace of mind.”

Lavender House has another program called Mindfulness Meditation, also on Mondays (2:30 p.m- 4 p.m.). It is another session focused on inter-disciplinary teachings particularly on the subject of mindfulness.

Full Moon Meditation and Sound healing drum circles are available as well among other events all hosted at Lavender House through various groups and members of the Lawrence community.
