On April 16, 2016, the single largest day of community service took place in Lawrence. The Big Event, a massive volunteer event organized by KU students, occurred over the recent weekend. Thousands of KU students helped serve hundreds of areas in Lawrence that need help with yard maintenance, landscaping and housework.
The Big Event is a yearly service event that bridges the gap between the KU student community and local Lawrence community. Students arrive in the morning and are delegated different service sites for community members in need.
