It’s really refreshing when artists choose to go back to the original roots for that added kick that can’t be found anywhere else.

Arjun: Gravity

Arjun-300x300Arjun is Rock/Jazz fusion group from New York, New York. Their music is purely instrumental but despite the lack of lyrics their songs are captivating. Arjun’s album Gravity is what one could define as an experience. The first track “Gravity” starts off with a soft rock vibe and then decrescendos into a sitar-like rift. Although the track was over 10 minutes, the music didn’t drag by. Each minute was filled with subtle and bold surprises. “Ascent” was an interesting track. It had spunk and ambition molded within the chords of the melody. I pictured this being played in the movie Dazed and Confused. “Ascent” is definitely a child of the groovy 70s. “Blas” had an aura of danger and mystique. It sounded like the typical ‘bad boy’ soundtrack but with that vintage flair that is unique to Arjun. I enjoyed Gravity. It reminded me a bit of Jimi Hendrix but it still held a large portion of originality. The modern music that’s out today is nice; but it’s really refreshing when artists choose to go back to the original roots for that added kick that can’t be found anywhere else. Arjun has done this not only skillfully but also successfully. Well done.
