Fresh off of ending a long term relationship and coming out to his father, Douglas Dare began working on Aforger. He was determined not to make this a break-up album but instead focus on how modern day love interacts with the growing involvement of technology in our lives. The power of Dare’s music comes from his honest lyrics and strong voice. Each song on this album delivers a different message with a unique sound. Songs like ‘Doublethink’ and ‘Venus’ are more traditional while ‘Oh Father’ and ‘New York’ move in a more abstract direction. Dare’s voice seems to have darker undertones but through each song those tones even out and eventually calm the listener.
