In just a matter of months, Los Angeles garage punk band The Regrettes cut their debut album Feel Your Feelings Fool! The album contrasts sounds from squeaky-clean indie pop and lo-fi garage punk influences—think Best Coast meets Bratmobile—thanks in large part to frontwoman Lydia Night’s sophisticated vocals. At the tender age of 16, Night also acts as the outfit’s head lyricist, turning out hooks that would elicit envy from songwriters decades her senior. Filled with feminist angst and plenty of distortion, “Picture Perfect” and “Ladylike/Whatta Bitch” pay respect to riot grrrl bands of almost 30 years earlier. The album develops further with pop ballads “Pale Skin” and “How It Should Be” and 1960’s doo-wop inspired choruses throughout. Energetic, fast-paced riffs fill out the album, making Feel Your Feelings Fool! immediately catchy.
