Lawrence is Nominated For Best Food in the Midwest

LAWRENCE IS NOMINATED AS ONE OF MIDWEST LIVING’S GREATEST MIDWEST TOWNS: FOOD EDITION

Voting is open until May 31

Lawrence, KS, May 15, 2017– Lawrence has been selected as the Kansas finalist for Midwest Living magazine’s Greatest Midwest Food Town. Midwest Living’s editors selected the top food town in each of twelve Midwest states: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, South Dakota, Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and North Dakota.

This colorful college town has a whiff of inland Portlandia about it—although fierce University of Kansas fans would argue that the show’s “Put a bird on it” catchphrase only applies in the case of Jayhawks. You’ll find the culinary soul of Lawrence on Mass Street. That’s where Free State Brewing Company started doing craft beer before everyone thought it was cool and Mass Street Soda hosts craft root beer tastings. Chefs butcher hogs in-house at 715 Mass Restaurant … which buys its baguettes from Lawrence institution WheatFields Bakery … which makes its bread with wheat milled nearby. And over at The Burger Stand, even the condiments have class: Try a Kobe beef patty topped with truffle butter and tomato aioli.” – Midwest Living

The winner is selected entirely on voting from the public. Anyone can vote once every day at http://www.midwestliving.com/vote  The winning town will be announced in the September/October issue of the magazine, and Midwest Living will host an event/party in the winning town in September.
