Charts & Adds: Week of 10/8 – 10/15

October is already halfway Octover… isn’t that crazy? Luckily for us, that means that we get to observe our station’s 44th birthday this week! Check out what we’ll be spinning while we celebrate another year of KJHK.

Top 5 Charts:

1.) Jay Som – Anak Ko

Though Jay Som’s previous album, Everybody Works, is a tough record to top, the artist has continued to gain momentum with Anak Ko. As the indie music scene becomes more and more dominated by powerful, talented women, Jay Som is undoubtedly one of the leading forces. Read our review of the album here, and check out Jay Som TONIGHT at the Granada, along with our #10 charter, Boy Scouts!

2.) BROCKHAMPTON – Ginger

BROCKHAMPTON’s Ginger is somehow both raw and mature, a bit more melancholy than many of their previous works. The record is vulnerable, painting a picture of many of the very real issues the band’s members have personally experienced.

3.) Black Belt Eagle Scout – At the Party With My Brown Friends

Katherine Paul (the voice behind Black Belt Eagle Scout) presents an excellent sophomore album following her debut, Mother of My Children. Though At the Party With My Brown Friends is not as explicitly political as her first album, this record is a glimpse into what it means to be an indigenous woman in the music industry.

4.) Frankie Cosmos – Close It Quietly

In the fourth Frankie Cosmos record, lead singer Greta Kline explores the joys and perils of being in one’s twenties. Like many other artists who break into the music scene at a young age, the members of Frankie Cosmos have taken to music to make sense of young adulthood.

5.) Angel Olsen – All Mirrors

Compared to the brash, bold attitude Olsen has taken toward many of her previous albums, All Mirrors displays a softer, more hesitant side to the artist. The record contains pieces Olsen created in isolation in Anacortes, Washington, many re-imagined with a stunning 12-piece string arrangement.
