The War On Drugs – Lost in the Dream

Classic Summer Tunes

This album is a piece of sun-dappled Americana that lends itself to lazy summer days. It is ethereal and timeless. With a classic chilled out sound, this record sounds like it could have been made anytime in the last four decades…if it weren’t for the spectacular production. There are hints and tastes of Bob Dylan, with a delicate harmonica feature on the title track (#9). Lost in a Dream is familiar like childhood is familiar: fuzzy, warm, and blurred at the edges. Be sure to check out “Red Eye” (track #2). This track is the single off the album and undeniably one of the strongest. I love this tune because it has some of everything. Some atmospheric floating, sweeping guitars, musical verve, and steady drums. This album makes me uncomfortably nostalgic. But I guess that’s a good thing. This is quintessential KJ fuel.
