As so elegantly stated by Snoop Dogg at the end of “McDuck,” Freddie Gibbs (aka Freddie Kane, Freddie Corleone, Gangsta Gibbs, etc.) sounds as if he’s from nowhere. The unclassifiable Gangsta Gibbs, with every subsequent release, is continuing to solidify his trademark sound as the signature style of Gary, Indiana. Following Piñata, his game-changing 2014 album release with producer Madlib, Freddie Gibbs is back in business with a 17-track powerhouse LP that manages to encompass every aspect that his audience could ask for.
Gibbs’ versatility and technical proficiency come to fruition in Shadow Of A Doubt in a multitude of pleasing ways. Gibbs boasted his singing skills on a variety of hooks including songs like “Careless” and “Insecurities.” Then, rapping alongside Roots frontman Black Thought on “Extradite,” he gave us another splash of brilliance that featured gritty, old-school production that very well could’ve made the cut for Piñata. Not to mention, Freddie didn’t forget to pay homage to his trap origins on “Packages” and “Cold A** N****.” Overall, Shadow Of A Doubt was exactly what fans wanted from Freddie Kane and, while the album was a bit lengthy, you can never have enough of Gangsta Gibbs.
