Jaya Chakka: KJHK Station Manager

Tell us about your show

My special program is called The Big Sad. As the name suggests, I play strictly sad songs from a wide variety of genres and artists. This semester, I have been choosing a theme each week and basing my setlist around that theme.

What’s your favorite part about hosting it?

Even when I’m in a good mood, I love listening to sad music. Choosing songs for The Big Sad has really forced me to branch out so I can bring new, enticing tunes to the show each week. As a result, I have discovered so many new bands/artists! I have transformed from a mere fan of sad songs to something of a sad music connoisseur.

Would you rather go through a car wash (on foot, no car) once monthly or never be able to use a cart/basket from the grocery store?

I have an extreme aversion to getting water in my face… and going through a car wash on foot sounds disorienting and horrible in general. I think I’d go with never being able to use a cart/basket at the grocery store. It would kind of suck, but I think I would be able to strategically plan my grocery trips to make that work. Depending on the exact conditions of the car wash scenario (for example, could I wear a helmet?) that answer might change.

The Big Sad airs every Wednesday from 8 to 10 PM.
