This is what happens when surf rock meets punk
What happens when you come across a dirty rock found in the punk rock genre, clean it off, and combine it with surf rock? You get The Neighborhood Bullys. Their material doesn’t have the crisp to be warranted punk but after you look past the surf rock vibes, you can see that there are some strong punk vibes. ‘Fighter Not A Lover’ might lack a strong chorus but the band makes up for it by creating a strong instrumental style that will make you want to stand up and do the twist. ‘(Do You Have A) Boyfriend’ is the crème de la crème of the EP. When debating whether this was worthy of airplay after listening to a weak third track that resembled AC/DC way too much, listening to the second track makes the EP worthy of attention. The song is composed of catchy lyrics, a fun chorus, and enticing instrumentation that tempts me to turn off the vocals.
Think: Fun surf-like rock combined with a minor dose of punk
