Daniel Rossen: “Silent Hour/Golden Mile”

Another solid album from Grizzly Bear’s frontman.

If Daniel Rossen’s name doesn’t sound familiar, his voice will. Daniel Rossen is one of the heads and leads singers behind Grizzly Bear. The songs have a huge airy grandness to them, like with Grizzly Bear, like being channeled in to a radio station from some era past. I can’t help but imagine that this is what Gatsby would listen to, it’s just that grand. Theres also a country tinge and I feel some grit to his songs. This album’s goes back and forth for me. I feel like some songs seem to be upfront with their elements and/or the layers, but it’s a pretty good album. The drums thud, the guitar rambles here and there, slide guitar does its thing, the bass rolls, all while Daniel sings in his own.
