Christian Scott’s latest album reviewed
This album consists of Christian Scott, trumpet, siren, sirenette, reverse flugelhorn; Matthew Stevens, guitar; Jamire Wiliams, drums; Kris Funn, bass; Lawrence Fields, keyboard; Kenneth Whalum III, tenor saxophone; Louis Fouche III, alto saxophone; Corey King, trombone. The album is a true representation of Scott’s heritage as a New Orleans native. Standout tracks include “New New Orleans,” in which Scott’s inescapable trumpet solo keeps the track alive, and “Spy Boy/Flag Boy,” a methodical acceptance of that New Orleans heritage. The entire band does a great job of this embracement throughout several fleeting moments of this album.
