Charts & Adds: Week of 9/10 – 9/17

Well folks, we survived through the Friday the 13th/harvest moon double whammy, so we should be safe from that particular event for the next 30 years or so… and speaking of spectacular occurrences, the lovely Clairo has topped our charts for the fourth week in a row! Check out what else we’ve been playing this week at KJHK.

1.) Clairo – Immunity

Clairo holds down the number one spot for the fourth consecutive week. Debut album Immunity marks a clear maturation in this young artist’s sound; she doesn’t shy away from hard topics, relying more heavily on her vocals than ever before to pack the tracks with emotion. Read our review of the album here!

2.) Cuco – Para Mí

After surviving a near-fatal car crash, the members of Cuco realized that they had lost most of the files containing the music which would have become their debut album. Para Mí was born as the group metaphorically rose from the ashes, a cathartic, healing project that sounds more cheerful than one might expect.

3.) Jay Som – Anak Ko

Though Jay Som’s previous album, Everybody Works, is a tough record to top, the artist has continued to gain momentum with Anak Ko. As the indie music scene becomes more and more dominated by powerful, talented women, Jay Som is undoubtedly one of the leading forces. Read our review of the album here!

4.) Joy Again – Piano [EP]

Despite the band’s sunny name, the tracks Joy Again puts forth on the new Piano EP toy with topics which range from morbid to heart-breaking. The band’s signature heavy implementation of distortion doesn’t prevent them from toeing genre lines.

5.) Angie McMahon – Salt

Angie McMahon makes a stunning break into the music scene in Salt, demonstrating her ability to merge powerful, emotive lyrics with instrumental backing that ranges from low-key to power-packed. The record is as vulnerable as it is intense.
