III is the (obviously) third album from Peach Kelli Pop and by far their most musically mature. PKP’s early albums were mostly home recorded and used practically the same drum machine beat for every song, but that DIY-ness gave them a sense of charm that was totally infectious.
III is just as charming, but with the added benefit of a live drummer and bass player! Parts of this album sound like singer-guitarist Allie Hanlon are just making lyrics up on the spot (see: Shampoo, Bat Wing, Nude Beach, Sailor Moon), while others are sweet and thoughtful (see: Heart Eyes, Please Come Home).
All the songs are super fun, upbeat, and bubblegummy, but also sound like they’d be the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim-esque video game or maybe if the Powerpuff Girls formed a band.
